About Me

Michael D Potter
A lot of my day still revolves around systems, but outside of work, life is a lot more human.
I'm a husband and a dad, and the best parts of my week usually have more to do with family, faith, and showing up for the people around me than anything happening on a screen.
I tend to move between a lot of different interests. I can go from a homelab project to a camera rig, from a guitar to a retro console, and still end the day thinking about one more thing I want to build. I learn by making things, and curiosity has a pretty strong vote in how I spend my time.
Interests
Built outside of work, too.
I've been married to my wife Stacy for over 20 years, and I'm a dad to my adult son, Taylor. The best parts of my week usually have more to do with family, faith, and showing up for the people around me than anything happening on a screen.
I tend to move between a lot of different interests. One day it might be a homelab project, the next a camera setup, a guitar riff, or repairing a retro game console so I can relive a little bit of the childhood that made me love technology in the first place. I learn by building, experimenting, and following curiosity wherever it decides to go.
F3 is a big part of my life. Early mornings, hard workouts, honest conversations, and the kind of accountability that lasts longer than the workout itself. It's one of the places where fitness, fellowship, and faith all overlap.
Music and media are how I recharge. I enjoy videography, audio work, and playing guitar and piano. There's something satisfying about the blend of creativity and technical problem solving that comes with both.
A lot of my favorite projects sit somewhere between practical and unnecessary in the best possible way. Homelab upgrades, 3D printing ideas, electronics repair, cable cleanup, or whatever random build decides it deserves the weekend.
My faith matters to me. I serve in the audio and video area at Pathway Church in Valley Center, and I've been mentoring with Youth Horizons for more than five years. Community, consistency, and helping people feel supported matter more to me than collecting hobbies.
I still enjoy gaming across Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, Analogue, and retro hardware. Some of it is nostalgia, some of it is downtime, and some of it is just appreciating good design and memorable experiences.
Audiobooks are part of my daily rhythm. I usually have one playing while driving, walking my Rottweiler Loki, or winding down after a long day. It's one of my favorite ways to keep learning without needing another screen.

If I'm not working or building something, I'm probably at an F3 workout, behind a camera, or chasing down whatever idea decided it was worth trying next.
